Frequently Asked Questions
How does online therapy work?
Sessions are held over secure, PHIPA-compliant video (PHIPA is Ontario’s health-privacy law). You log in from any private space; encryption and easy booking keep therapy flexible and confidential.
Who can work with Essence?
We serve children, teens, adults, couples and families living anywhere in Ontario (and, for select services, Quebec). All cultures, faiths, genders and relationship structures are welcome.
What happens during the free 20-minute call?
It’s a no-obligation chat to explore your goals, answer questions and confirm fit. If another service suits you better, we’ll gladly provide a referral.
Are sessions covered by insurance?
Many extended-health plans reimburse psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Coverage varies—please check your policy or call your insurer before booking.
What does “RP (Qualifying)” mean?
Your therapist is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and practises under the clinical supervision of an experienced CRPO-registered supervisor, as required by the College.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your information is protected under PHIPA. The only exceptions are rare legal or safety situations—such as risk of serious harm, court orders or child-protection duties—where disclosure is required.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
We tailor evidence-informed modalities, attachment, CBT, DBT, EFT, IFS-informed work, somatic and mindfulness practices, to your goals, culture and pace.
What are the fees, and do you offer sliding scale?
The standard rate is $125 for a 60-minute session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are available; please mention cost concerns during your consult.
What if Essence isn’t the right fit for me?
Your wellbeing comes first. If at any point you feel another provider would better meet your needs, we will offer trusted referrals to ensure you receive appropriate care.
